Ylva Sofia Stenberg
Lyric coloratura soprano
Ylva Sofia Stenberg, born in Arvika, Sweden, is a young lyric coloratura soprano. She has been a permanent member of the German National Theater Weimar since the 2019/20 season, where she portrayed, among others, Frasquita from “Carmen”, Olympia from “Les contes d'Hoffmann” and Zerbinetta from “Ariadne auf Naxos”. Her 2021/22 season included a guest contract as Konstanze from “The Abduction from the Seraglio” and a debut as Zanetta from Offenbach’s lesser-known operetta “Le princesse de Trébizonde” on her home stage. In the 2022/23 season she will make her debut as Queen of Schemacha from Rimski-Korsakov's “The Golden Rooster” and Giulietta from Bellini's “I capuleti ei Montecchi”.
After completing her studies with Prof. Dr. Peter Anton Ling in Hanover, she joined the opera studio of the Hanover State Opera, where she gained her first experiences on the opera stage, both in smaller roles on the big stage such as Papagena, Barbarina and Giannetta, as well as in several leading roles in contemporary repertoire on smaller stages. She is also very active as a concert singer and has already been heard at important venues such as the Frauenkirche Dresden, on the Danish Radio and in the Gothenburg Symphony.
Ylva Sofia Stenberg won third prize at the ARD Music Competition in Munich in September 2018, first prize at the Federal Competition in Berlin two months later, and the Teatro Real Madrid Special Prize at the Ottavio Ziino Competition in Rome 2021.
