Arthur Garbas
baritone
Artur Garbas was born in Poland in 1996.
Since 2015 he has been studying the bachelor's degree in singing at the Carl Maria von Weber University of Music in Dresden with Prof. Hendrikje Wangemann.
He successfully took part in various singing competitions:
* Qualification for the final round of the international competition “New Voices” in Gütersloh (42 selected participants from 1,500 applications).
* Special Prize at the 1st. Vienna International Music Competition in the Virtuoso category.
* 2017 multiple prize winner at the 52nd International Antonín Dvorák Competition in Karlovy Vary (including 2nd main prize in the junior category, prize for the best interpretation of a Mozart aria, prize from the Prague State Theater and the Gustav Mahler Society).
* At the 45th Federal Singing Competition in Berlin 2016 sponsorship award from the Walter and Charlotte Hamel Foundation (Junior 22-24 category).
In April 2019 he became a scholarship holder of the Walter and Charlotte Hamel Foundation in Hanover and won the audience award at the selection concert.
In 2018, the Dresden University of Music awarded him a Germany scholarship.
Artur was an active participant in various master classes, including with Prof. Rudolf Piernay, Prof. Silvana Bazzoni-Bartoli, Lucas Meachem.
Since 2017 he has been able to take his first steps into professional stage practice, including at the Leipzig Opera, the Kleines Schauspielhaus Dresden (university opera production) and the Narodni Divadlo (National Theater) in Prague.
He was able to work with experienced directors: Radim Vizvary, Aron Stiehl, Anthony Pilavachi, Cusch Jung and Barbara Beyer as well as successful conductors: Prof. Ulf Schirmer, Christopher Ward, Prof. Franz Brochhagen and David Reiland.
At the Leipzig Opera in 2017 he sang the role of De Brienne in Charles Gounod's “Cinq-Mars”, a Cappadocian in “Salome” by Richard Strauss and in autumn 2018 the role of Billy Jackrabbit in Puccini's “La fanciulla del West”.
In spring 2018, Artur Don Alfonso was in the university production “Cosi fan tutte” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart at the Kleines Schauspielhaus Dresden.
In May 2019 he sang the role of Leander in “L'amour des trois oranges” by Sergej Prokofiev in French at the Prague Opera.
In December 2019 he will take on the title role in a studio production of “The Wedding of Figaro” in German.
In February 2020 he will appear as Adam in Haydn's "Creation" in the Nikolaisaal in Potsdam and in the Frankfurt/Oder Concert Hall.
